Exhibition of Fernando Guerrero Strachan: The Family Saga and Its Legacy in Málaga’s Architecture

The city of Málaga is known for its impressive architecture, much of which owes its heritage to the influence of the Guerrero Strachan family. On the occasion of the centenary of the construction of its headquarters, designed by Fernando Guerrero Strachan himself, the College of Architects has organized an exhibition at the Palacio de la Aduana dedicated to this architect and his family legacy.

Fernando Guerrero Strachan was the mayor of the city and a key figure in Málaga’s architecture for his innovative vision. This distinguished figure maintained a close relationship with the Larios family, who were responsible for many of the city’s most iconic buildings. The exhibition reveals how his family played a decisive role in the modernization of Málaga, with some of the most well-known works such as Calle Marqués de Larios and the City Hall. Through this exhibition, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the history of the Guerrero Strachan family and their connection to Málaga, a city that was transformed thanks to their creativity and commitment.

One of the most interesting aspects of this exhibition is the location of his home and studio, situated at 3 Calle Marqués de Larios, a key point in the city’s development. The exhibition not only celebrates the architectural work of Guerrero Strachan but also his family legacy, which spans several generations of architects who left their mark on Málaga.

On February 26, 2026, the employees of Grupo Sociedad Azucarera Larios had the opportunity to visit the exhibition, guided by one of its curators, delving deeper into the historical, architectural, and familial context surrounding this key figure in modern Málaga.

This cultural event is supported by Grupo Sociedad Azucarera Larios as a co-sponsor and has been a unique opportunity to learn more about the work of one of the most influential families in the urban transformation of the city, who also served as the architects for the Larios family for decades, sharing an important historical bond.
